Privacy Policy

Effective as of May 20, 2026

This privacy policy applies to applications published by Stray Software LLC (hereby referred to as "Service Provider"), including Scoot'em & Shoot'em and WordSlay (each, an "Application"). This service is intended for use "AS IS".

Information Collection and Use

The Application collects information when you download and use it. This information may include:

  • Your device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address)
  • The pages of the Application that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages
  • The time spent on the Application
  • The operating system you use on your mobile device
  • Anonymous analytics ID — a random identifier generated by the Application on first launch and stored on your device. This is not your system device ID, IDFA, or AAID. You can view, copy, or reset this ID from in-app Settings → Privacy. Resetting it generates a new ID and severs the link to past data.
  • Session ID — a new random identifier created each time the Application is launched. This lets us group events from the same play session without identifying you across sessions.
  • Game version — for example, 0.0.2. This lets us correlate issues with specific releases.
  • OS version — for example, iOS 18.1, Android 14, or Windows 11 build numbers. This helps us diagnose OS-specific bugs.
  • Locale and language setting — for example, en_US or de_DE. This tells us which languages players use.
  • Gameplay events — when a run starts, when a run ends (whether it was a win or loss, score, class chosen, difficulty modifiers, duration, and number of relics held), and when a word is played (the word itself, its length, and its score).
  • Error and crash diagnostics — exception type, error message, and stack trace, used to fix bugs.

Aside from any display name you voluntarily enter when using community challenges (see "Community Challenges" below), the Application does not collect your name, email address, phone number, payment information, contacts, microphone audio, camera images, biometrics, or any data from other apps on your device.

The Application does not gather precise information about the location of your mobile device.

Third Party Access

Diagnostic and usage data is periodically transmitted to external services to aid the Service Provider in improving the Application and their service. This data is not sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers. The Service Provider may share your information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.

Third-Party Service Providers

The Application utilizes third-party services that have their own Privacy Policy about handling data:

Telemetry data sent to Microsoft Application Insights is stored in Microsoft Azure, West US 2 region.

The Service Provider may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:

  • As required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process
  • When they believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect their rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request
  • With their trusted services providers who work on their behalf, do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement

Opt-Out Rights

You can opt out of analytics at any time from the in-app Settings menu (Privacy → Send anonymous gameplay analytics → off). If you'd rather opt out without launching the Application, uninstalling it also stops all data collection from your device going forward. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.

Data Retention Policy

Analytics data is retained for 30 days after collection, after which it is automatically discarded by Microsoft Application Insights. In practice this means all analytics tied to your device rolls off within 30 days of your last play session, with no action required on your part.

If you want deletion sooner, you can email support@straysoftware.com with your anonymous analytics ID (copy it from the in-app Settings → Privacy panel) and we will submit a deletion request to Microsoft via their Purge API.

Community Challenges

WordSlay includes an optional online community feature that lets you publish word-puzzle "challenges" for other players to attempt, and submit your own results against challenges others have published. This data is separate from the anonymous analytics described above and is stored in the Service Provider's own database hosted on Microsoft Azure (West US 2 region). It is only collected when you actively choose to post a challenge or submit a result.

When you use community challenges, the following is stored:

  • Community device ID — a random identifier generated on first use of the community feature and stored on your device. It is separate from your analytics ID and from any system device ID. We use it to link your published challenges and results to you without requiring an account, to keep a single best result per player on each challenge, and to prevent abuse.
  • Display name — the name you type when posting a challenge or submitting a result. It is shown publicly on challenge leaderboards next to your result. Please do not enter your real name or other personal information you would not want shown publicly; a nickname is fine.
  • Challenge and result data — the encoded puzzle you created, its difficulty, the date posted, and, for results, the outcome and number of words played.

Because community challenges are shared with other players, this data is retained for as long as the challenge or result remains part of the community pool, rather than the 30-day analytics window described above. While the Application is installed, you can delete all of your community data — both the challenges you posted and your play results — at any time from the in-app Word Duels menu ("Delete my data"). This removes every record tied to your community device ID. Once you uninstall, that ID is removed from your device and we can no longer link your published challenges or play results back to you, so please use "Delete my data" before uninstalling if you want everything removed. If you have already uninstalled, you can still email support@straysoftware.com with the share link(s) of any challenges you posted and we will delete them, though individual play results can no longer be located once the device ID is gone. Our legal basis under GDPR for processing this data is your consent, which you give by choosing to post a challenge or submit a result.

EU, UK, and California Users

If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, and the CCPA / CPRA — including the right to access the data we hold about you, the right to request deletion, and the right to know whether your data has been sold or shared. We do not sell or share your personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email support@straysoftware.com with your analytics ID (for analytics data) or the share link(s) of challenges you posted (for community challenge data) — or, while the app is installed, use the in-app "Delete my data" option to erase all your community data yourself. Our legal basis for processing under GDPR is your consent — which you give for analytics by enabling it in the in-app Settings menu and can withdraw at any time by disabling it, and which you give for community challenges by choosing to post a challenge or submit a result.

Children

The Service Provider does not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13.

The Application does not address anyone under the age of 13. The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age. In the case the Service Provider discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, the Service Provider will immediately delete this from their servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact the Service Provider at support@straysoftware.com so that they will be able to take the necessary actions.

Security

The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. The Service Provider provides physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information the Service Provider processes and maintains.

You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.
